Heather Lee

Heather Lee

Heather Lee is a master herbalist and stay-at-home mother.

Lee, 32, also works as a substitute disabled student teachers aide for the Oswego City School District. She earned master herbalist status at the Australasian College of Herbal Studies in Lake Oswego, Ore. At Oswego High School, she volunteered her free periods in the BOCES special education room. “I have always loved to help special needs children,” she said.

She became a certified Special Olympics coach in 1991. Lee was nominated by one of her teachers and is in the 1993 “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.” She is also an ARISE teen group coordinator and a board member of the Oswego County Humane Society.

She is also an OCHS Barn Cat project coordinator, where she fosters and adopts out many animals.

Through ARISE, she runs a teen group for special needs individuals. “I bring the group out into the community once a month,” she said. “The participants count down the days to the next event.”

She took nine years off after having her first child, and has become a stay-at-home mom to her three children. Lee and her husband Richard have three sons: Noah, 10; Addison, 8; and Jayden, 6. It was during this time she earned her title as master herbalist. “I believe in treating many ailments naturally,” she said.

She is on the Oswego Minor Hockey Association Fundraising Committee, and has received the “Volunteer of the Year” award through the organization. “I do sometimes spread myself thin, but it is for good causes,” she said. (LS)
