James Purdy

James Purdy

James Purdy is the Medicaid service coordinator at ARISE in Oswego.

He received a degree from Jefferson Community College in criminal justice. Purdy, 34, carries a caseload of 22 consumers, which he connects to local, state and national resources. “Professionally, one of my most significant accomplishments would be having assisted consumers in need to be placed in appropriate living arrangements within the county,” he said.

Prior to his work for ARISE, Purdy worked for Oswego County Opportunities. There he assisted in the development of daily living skills for consumers who are physically or developmentally disabled. Purdy actively advocates the use of low cost food services, including “Angel Foods” in the greater Pulaski area. He recently coordinated with a representative from the low cost food service to attend and give details of the program at an all Oswego ARISE meeting. “On a monthly basis, I have and continue to assist the families in the community of Northern Oswego County to access low cost food programs and community cupboards,” Purdy said.

He is president of the Pulaski Area Pop Warner Association and secretary of its governing board, the Greater Watertown Pop Warner. What drives Purdy is the knowledge that he made a difference in someone’s life. “Some service coordinators might say, ‘It sometimes seems success stories are far and few between,’ but it’s my opinion that within those moments of success and accomplishments, knowing you played a part of those instances, is why I am a service coordinator,” he said.
