Justin White
Oswego County

Justin White is the records administrator and county historian for Oswego County.

He volunteers for the Heritage Foundation of Oswego County, where he is the board president. The Heritage Foundation of Oswego County is a historic preservation organization. White is also a trustee of the Oswego Town Historical Society, and volunteers at the Richardson-Bates House Museum. “My appointment as Oswego County historian is one of my most significant accomplishments,” he said. “I am truly honored to have been chosen to follow in the footsteps of our past historians who have been great role models and leaders of their generations.”

White, 32, graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Allegany with a degree in English and mass communications. In 1994, he received the Oswego County Youth Award for community service. He also received an award in 1995 for the most community service hours contributed in the history of the Oswego County Historical Society.

White has assisted in the development of the county records center and archives program, which was instituted in 1997 as part of a new approach to records management. The records center was the recipient of the New York State Archives and Records Administration Award in 2001. He was also a member of the Architectural Review Committee, which oversees the planning process in the designated downtown district. White said he enjoys helping people find answers to their questions about the history of their community. “This is an inspiring and challenging field, which provides an ever-changing look at the past, present and future,” he said.
