Kristen Nylen

Kristen Nylen
Canalview Dental Associates

Kristen Nylen is a dentist at Canalview Dental Association in Fulton.

She received a bachelor’s in biology from the State University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Nylen, 28, was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society upon graduation from the University of Buffalo. This was based on her academic performance and ethical behavior.

In her practice, she primarily treats under-served populations within the community as well as patients with special needs. “A community problem is lack of access to dental care for individuals with Medicaid and Child Health Plus,” Nylen said. “As a participating provider with these benefits, I have completed hundreds of root canals on patients under 21 who would have otherwise had to have their adult teeth extracted due to lack of providers offering treatment in this area,” she added.

Nylen is a member of the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Association. She also volunteers for the Special Olympics Special Smiles, where she provides dental screenings, distributes educational materials and cheers for the athletes. During her time at Canalview, she improved the method of denture impressions in a financial and timely standpoint. “The final pour of a full denture impression is not cost effective to do in-office in the traditional ‘bead and box’ method,” Nylen said. “I improved a method to do this in-office using inexpensive materials that is highly effective. I feel a great responsibility to serve my profession well and to ensure that people view dentistry in a positive light,” Nylon said. (AC)
