Christopher Flaherty

Christopher Flaherty
U.S. Navy / Naval Operations

Lieutenant Commander Christopher Flaherty is a Deputy P-3/P-8 Requirements Officer, Air Warfare Directorate, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Operational P-3C squadron conducts anti-submarine warfare, intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance operations.

Flaherty, 36, was deployed to the Seventh Fleet from May through December 2007 and was engaged in Operation Enduring Freedom. There, he provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to Joint Special Operations Force-Philippines, fighting the global war on terror. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Duke University in Durham, N.C.

He played for the 2004 All-Navy baseball team, which featured a roster of 40 active-duty personnel drawn from over 1,600 athletes across the Navy. “With the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks as a call to action, I founded a curriculum enrichment program/character development partnership with Cleveland Elementary so that the students in my hometown might look beyond their horizons with renewed hope and wonder and be inspired to pursue their dreams and aspirations,” he said.

Now in its eighth year, the partnership serves as a flagship for the “First a Dream Foundation,” committed to “honor yesterday to inspire today so that we achieve tomorrow.” He received the key to the village of Cleveland in 2002 in recognition of his contributions to the community through the foundation.

In conjunction with the foundation, Flaherty endowed the “First A Dream Foundation” scholarship at Paul V. Moore High School in Central Square, his alma mater. (LS)
