Ben Parker

Benjamin J. Parker
Veteran Services Coordinator, SUNY Oswego

Benjamin J. Parker is the veteran services coordinator and an academic planning coordinator in the Division of Extended Learning at SUNY Oswego.

Prior to his current post, Parker was the assistant director of career development and employment services as well as the undeclared program coordinator at Gannon University in Erie, Pa.

Parker, 36, earned his Master of Science degree in student personnel administration at SUNY Buffalo, a graduate certificate in veteran services from Empire State College, and a Bachelor of Science degree in business economics from SUNY Cortland.

Parker was chairman of a committee charged with developing an in-depth plan for SUNY Oswego to increase campus support for veteran students that was eventually turned into a campus-wide initiative after gaining executive support.

"My efforts led the provost to name me veteran services coordinator for the campus," he noted. "Working in education, my motivation comes directly from the students," Parker said. "Seeing the successes that they are able to achieve and the gratitude that they show me for my efforts makes going to the office every day enjoyable."

Parker is involved in the Wounded Warrior Project and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Parker has helped the Veterans Administration with the National Veterans Golden Age Games.

"While I help the transitioning veterans with my position at SUNY Oswego, I thoroughly enjoy being able to assist veterans in the community any way possible," he added. Parker considers his most significant personal accomplishment to be balancing full-time study toward his undergraduate degree while holding a full-time job.
