Carolyn D. Handville
Program Manager, OCO, Inc.'s Cancer Services Program

Carolyn D. Handville is the program manager for Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program.

Handville was selected as a national vocational honor society student in 2000 and has undergone intensive internal and external training while employed at OCO. Prior to her current position, she was a health educator/outreach worker at OCO.

“I feel my most significant accomplishment is my ongoing ability to educate and motivate community members to obtain preventative cancer screenings, diagnostic services and provide them comfort if diagnosed with cancer, reassuring them I will be there for them,” she said.

What drives Handville to excel is her ability to empathize with the clients she works with and the outcomes from the work she does.

“I treat every person I encounter with the mutual respect I would expect if the shoe was on the other foot,” she said.

Handville volunteers to promote OCO programs at local health fairs throughout the community. “I enjoy volunteering my time if my children are able to come with me, help out, and learn something new,” she said.

Handville said she is most proud of her human pink ribbon ceremonies she created in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Last October, nearly 200 community members joined her at the Hannibal IGA with their pink on to create the county’s third annual human pink ribbon.

“I feel that my most significant accomplishment personally is my determination to prove myself to each person I encounter, personally and professionally,” she said.

“My determination has led to my career success. I truly believe where there is a will, there is a way,” she said.
