Jerry Emmons
Medical Director of Emergency Services, Oswego Hospital

Jerry R. Emmons is the medical director of emergency services at Oswego Hospital.

He earned his medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.

Emmons, 30, holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.

Emmons has also served as Oswego County Ambulance Service medical director; the Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps medical director; emergency medicine attending physician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse; and emergency medicine attending physician at Unity Hospital in Rochester.

Emmons said he considers making the transition from training to clinical practice as one of his more significant accomplishments.

He has also advocated for EMS physician field response, where a doctor is brought to the emergency scene.

Emmons is also instrumental in recruiting quality physicians to Oswego Hospital. “I bring active medical direction to ambulance services that had never before met their medical director,” he said.

“I have shown emergency medicine physicians that small town community medicine is classical medicine at its best,” he said. “We treat more children and perform more of our own procedures in the emergency department that would otherwise go to specialty services at other tertiary hospitals. We embrace the ideal that we take care of our own in this community.”

Emmons is also the volunteer medical director for Onondaga County Parks EMS; volunteer race medical director for ARC of Onondaga Race; volunteer paramedic, Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps; and is a member of the Central New York Regional Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.
