Jonathan Shaver

Jonathan Shaver
Senior Electrical Design Engineer, Constellation Energy Nuclear Group

Jonathan Shaver is a senior electrical design engineer for Constellation Energy Nuclear Group at Nine Mile Point in Scriba. Shaver earned a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in systems engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy.

"My most significant accomplishment is qualifying as a Navy nuclear engineer," he said. "This is a three-year process that involved six months of intense classroom learning followed by six months of hands-on instruction on an operational Naval nuclear reactor, two years of fleet operational experience, culminating with a written and oral qualification examination with Naval reactors."

Shaver, 29, said the No. 1 factor that drives him to excel in his field is his commitment to continued improvement.

At Nine Mile Point, Shaver addressed an issue that prevented one of the nuclear plants from achieving 100 percent rated power. "Through my research, evaluation and implementation of a solution, the plant is now able to reach full generating capacity," he said.

Shaver said he is most proud of designing the first town flag for the town of Minetto. "Before my Eagle project, the municipality had no flag. Today it hangs proudly in the town courtroom."

He is presently board of trustees' president for the Children's Museum of Oswego. Shaver has also revitalized what once was a dilapidated Walgate Commons in downtown Oswego.

In terms of personal accomplishments, Shaver said nothing surpasses caring for, mentoring and teaching his two children.
