Lauren Pistell
Executive Director, Richard S. Shineman Foundation, SUNY Oswego

Lauren A. Pistell, 33, is the executive director of the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, a private foundation dedicated to being a “Catalyst for Change” in Central New York.

Having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Yale University, Pistell is also a Master of Business Administration student at Syracuse University.

Lauren said she is inspired by the philanthropic work of Dr. Richard Shineman, and strives to “ensure that the foundation adheres to the highest professional grant-making standards to achieve Dr. Shineman’s vision and fulfill his legacy to the community.”

“As part of my work with the foundation,” Pistell said, “I aim to be a thoroughly engaged member of the community.”

She serves as a member of the Oswego Rotary Club, Habitat for Humanity and Leadership Oswego County’s Class of 2013, where she is involved in the “Serving our Seniors” project to better life for elderly individuals in the community.

Pistell has been a long-time leader of YP Voice of Oswego, chairing its committee service subcommittee and increasing overall involvement in service activities, including a continued partnership with Project Bloom and work to maintain the Veterans Park in Oswego.

But, “my children, Elijah and Eve, are the accomplishment that I am most proud of,” she said. “I strive every day to be the best mother I can be, and teach them to be good citizens of the world. In turn, they have taught me more about life and love than any other experience ever could.”
