Michael Kerns

Michael Kerns
Senior Reactor Operator Candidate, Entergy-James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant

Michael Kearns is a senior reactor operator candidate at Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Scriba.

Kearns, 33, resides in Clay.

Kearns earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human resource management.

Prior to his current position, Kearns worked as a mechanical maintenance supervisor for Entergy.

“The professional achievement that I am most proud of is seeing the people I have mentored along the way succeed,” he said.

“I am internally motivated and really enjoy challenging myself,” he added.

Kearns assisted with the initial design phase for the new feed pump seal modification leading to greater plant reliability.

As a leading petty officer for the U.S. Navy, Kearns developed a maintenance program for valves on board the USS Jacksonville to increase valve reliability.

Kearns works with the Wounded Warrior project to raise money for veterans, and has participated in Entergy’s push to hire 100,000 veterans.

“After serving in the U.S. Navy, I have a personal bond with the men and women helped by the Wounded Warrior project,” he said.

Kearns received three Navy Achievement Medals in his career due to his success in running the mechanical maintenance shop at the MARF Naval Nuclear Training Site. He considers his most significant accomplishment as graduating from the U.S. Navy’s Dive School.

“I believe in the power of small contributions such as donating blood, sponsoring participants in the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and my participation in this year’s Habitat for Humanity fundraiser ‘Dancing With the Community Stars,’” he said.
