Sarah Therrien

Sarah Therrien
Math 7 Teacher, Oswego City School District

Sarah Therrien is a Math 7 teacher at the Oswego City School District. She is in her 13th year of teaching.

Therrien, 37, received her associate’s degree in liberal arts in 1995 from Jefferson Community College, her Bachelor of Science degree in education from SUNY Oswego in 1997 and her Master of Science degree in education from SUNY Oswego in 2000 summa cum laude.

Therrien was recently selected as a “LearnZillion Dream Team” member to create common core math tutorials for the LearnZillion website.

Over 3,000 people applied and only 200 were selected nationwide. In May, she attended “Teachfest” to collaborate and train with the other Dream Team members in San Francisco.

Since the technological “push,” she has piloted many SMART products in the classroom, such as a SMART board, SMART student response system and SMART wireless slate.

Her three children are involved in a variety of activities such as Boy Scout Pack 885, Oswego Minor Hockey, Oswego Youth Soccer, Oswego Little League and The New Jennaration Dance Studio.

“I help with these organizations as much as possible,” she said.

Her closest friend, Corrina Pauldine, recently opened McEwen Auction Co., and Therrien volunteers her time there as well.

Therrien is training for her first 5K in June, Paige’s Butterfly Run. She will be raising money and running with Team Sadie for Sadie Wilson, a local 2-year-old with leukemia.

“My most significant accomplishments, hands down, are my three children,” she said. “Brianah, 15, Spencer, 6, and Cooper, 5, are my pride and joy. They have such generous hearts and are always willing to ‘do for others.’ They each make me proud.”
