Job Description: "Project X" facilitator/co-director Education:Indiana's Goshen College, B.A. interdisciplinary studies Civic Leadership: Planning committee member-Leadership Oswego County Youth; Member-Oswego County Americorps; Volunteer, Friends of Camp Hollis
Where did you come up with the idea for Project X
? "It came through a lot of brainstorming. We're (Matt Wood and I) both very interested in working with youth. I have a musical-education background. The schools in NYS are structured within standards and requirements. We want to provide options that students don't usually get." Why is teaching the youth about arts, wilderness and the environment so important to you?
"Today's youth are going to have to respond to so many things as they become adults. A lot of these things will be environmental issues. The solutions to those issues are going to have to be creative ones. We need to understand that youth need a voice in this society. I want to hear that voice and bring it to the community."
What do you hope to achieve through Project X? "Our goal is to give as many people as possible an experience of the natural world and teach them to use their own voices as much as possible. I want to span all ages as well as give people an opportunity to use their voices and experience the world in a positive way." Where do you see yourself in 10 years? "Hopefully running a very successful Project X program."
