What made you dedicate your career to the youth population? "Our youth population is very underserved. More and more they need supportive people and role models in their lives. Giving them the support they need will give them a better chance." Why is street outreach to homeless teens important to you
? "There is a lot of homeless youth in this county. The numbers are very high. We serve 250 to 300 youth each year. We also talk to businesses and adults about homeless teens in the county."
What message about youth would you like to send to the community
? "The youth we work with need a positive role model in their lives and they are out looking for this. They have strength that a lot of people don't recognize. They need services and support and they have a lot of positive skills that they bring to the table. If we can give them a chance, we can see them shine."
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? "I hope to still be working with the youth population. I really enjoy the job that I do now. I also want to be more involved with the community I'm from and work in. I want to be recognized as someone who's an advocate for youth. That's very important to me."
